Cygan gets probation for Crown King wildfire
A judge has sentenced a Yuma man to 60 months of probation and 150 hours of community service for igniting the Lane II wildfire that forced the evacuation of hundreds of people in the Crown King area in 2008.

David Cygan, 53, also must stay off federal lands unless he's with a "responsible adult." He has to participate in mental health and substance abuse programs, submit to substance abuse tests and avoid alcohol.

Editorial: Drunk drivers' tears don't undo the damage

The good news from anti-drunk-driving group The Century Council is that between 1998 and 2008, drunk-driving fatalities in Arizona dropped 38.2 percent in all age brackets, and a whopping 54 percent among youths younger than 21.

The bad news is that in 2008, 266 people died in alcohol-related accidents in Arizona. In 71 percent of these fatalities, drivers had blood alcohol levels exceeding 0.15.
